Collection Instructions: Must collect specimen with a special swab - Cepheid catalog number 900-0370. Please contact the laboratory for the swab. Collection of a paired rectal swab: Carefully insert both swab tips approximately 1 cm beyond the anal sphincter and rotate gently. Collection of a paired perirectal swab: Carefully insert both swab tips no more than 1 cm into the anal opening before the anal sphincter and rotate gently. This assay allows for the detection and differentiation of the blaKPC, blaNDM, blaVIM, blaOXA-48, and blaIMP gene sequences associated with carbapenem-non-susceptibility. If gene sequences are detected, culture will automatically performed on the remaining specimen to attempt to identify the organism for infection control purposes.
