PLATELET AGGREGATION
MessageRequires both plasma and blood. 1. Submit specimens to the testing department as whole blood in their original collection container s. Do no spin, Do not aliquot. 2. Specimens should be drawn with a minimum of trauma or stasis at the venipuncture site and anticoagulated with 3. 2% sodium citrate, in the ratio of 1 part anticoagulant to 9 parts of blood. 3. Plastic or non-contact surfaced (siliconized) material should be used throughout in order to minimize activation of the platelets during sample preparation. Please collect 1 EDTA - Lavender top tube in addition to the 10 Light Blue - Citrate tubes, this is required for testing. Collect a full tube to the fill line, following standard venipuncture techniques. Do not over or under fill tubes as the ratio of blood to anticoagulant (9: 1) is necessary for accurate results. Gently Invert the tube three or four times immediately after venipuncture to ensure proper mixing of blood and anticoagulant. It is extremely important that care be taken in the collection, handling, and preparation of the patient' s blood specimen. Specimens should be drawn with minimal trauma or stasis at the venipuncture site. Cord blood is not acceptable.
