Message
Submit only 1 of the following specimens. 1. Whole blood or plasma collected in an EDTA (lavender-top) tube2. Serum collected in a Gold SST or Red top3. CSF, lower respiratory specimens (BAL, bronchial wash, tracheal secretions), amniotic fluid amniotic fluid in a sterile leak-proof container 4. Fresh tissue (unfixed) in a sterile container 5. Undiluted vitreous (eye) fluid collected in a sterile leak-proof container No other acceptable specimensWhole blood: Collect whole blood in sterile tubes containing EDTA anticoagulant. Store Refrigerated . Do not freeze. Plasma: Collect blood in sterile tubes containing EDTA anticoagulant or in plasma preparation tubes (PPT). Store collected whole blood at room temperature and separate plasma from cells within 2 hours of collection. Transferplasma to sterile plastic screw-cap tubes and store Refrigerated or frozen. If blood is collected in a PPT, centrifuge within 2 hours of collection and store Refrigerated or frozen. It is not necessary to transfer the plasma from a PPT to aliquot tubes. Serum: Collect in a serum separator tube (SST) or a red-top tube (no gel). Centrifuge specimen before transporting to the lab. If drawn using a plain red-top tube, transfer serum to a plastic screw-cap tube prior to transportation. CSF, amniotic fluid, urine, BAL: Collect in a sterile, plastic, leak-proof container and store Refrigerated or frozen. Raw vitreous (eye) fluid: Do not dilute colellected specimen with additional saline or other transport media. Tissue: Fresh (unfixed) tissue submitted in a sterile, plastic, leak-proof container and store Refrigerated or frozen. Immediate Specimen Processing: Centrifuge specimen before transporting to the lab. If drawn using a plain red-top tube, transfer serum to a plastic screw-cap tube prior to transportation. Ambulatory Transport Temperature to Inova Central Lab: (list the preferred/recommended transport temp the specimen should be shipped to ICL/main lab)Refrigerated Specimen Stability: (List only the specimen stability for the recommended transport temp to ICL)Varies
