Preferred Specimen
One aerobic and one anaerobic Virtuo vial for each blood culture
Minimum Volume
7 - 10 ml each vial
Other Acceptable Specimens
Pediatric patients: one pediatric bottle per set.
Instructions
Clean collection site with Alcohol first, allow to dry, then clean with Chloraprep One-Step Frepp applicators. Use repeated back and forth strokes of the applicator for approx. 30 seconds
Transport Container
Virtuo blood culture bottles. Deliver as soon as possible. If transport is delayed, keep bottles at room temperature.

Specimen Stability
24 hours at room temp.
Methodology
Run on Virtuo machine for a total of 5 days if negative.
