Instructions
Patient should be fasting a minimum of 12 hours. No smoking and only mild excercies. A finger stick glucose and venous fasting specimen is collected. The finger stick glucose must be less the 125 mg/dL. If it is higher consult with patient's physician and verify that testing should be continued. Immediately after a fasting specimen is obtained, have patient ingest a 100 gm ( or as directed by physician) loaded dose of glucose. Draw subsequent specimens 30 minutes, 1 and 2 hours later. Label each with the specific draw time. No eating, drinking or smoking during testing interval. Patients weighing less than 100 pounds must have glucose dose adjusted. Contact the laboratory for specific instruction.
