Routine testing includes Salmonella, Shigella, Campylobacter, Aeromonas, and Plesiomonas. Culture for E. coli O157:H7 and shiga toxin testing.

Pass specimen into a clean dry container. Tansport to lab or transfer to Cary-Blair holding media

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)

Limitations
Do not perform stool cultures for inpatients whose length of stay >3 days w/o admitting diagnosis of gastroenteritis. Consider C. diff in this case.
