Test Code
DDIMER
CPT Codes
85379
Preferred Specimen
Platelet poor citrated plasma (3.2 % Na Citrate tube (Blue Top))
Minimum Volume
0.5 mL
Instructions
DDIMER-FILL TUBE TO PROPER LEVEL
Transport Temperature
Refrigerated unless transport greater than 4 hours. If greater than 4 hours freeze and ship frozen.
Specimen Stability
Room Tempearture: 4 hours; Refrigerated: 4 hours; Frozen: 2 weeks. Frozen plasma samples must be rapidly thawed at 37C and tested immediately after thawing. If testing is delayed, the sample may be held for 2 hours at 4C until tested.
Clinical Significance
D-Dimer is contained in the soluble derivatives formed upon plasmin degradation of Factor XIIIa cross-linked fibrin (XDP). These soluble fibrin degradation products contain a neoantigen (D-Dimer domain), which is not present on the original fibrinogen molecule, its degradation products or on soluble fibrin.
