Preferred Specimen

Sterile container

Minimum Volume

3 mm to 4 mm POC specimen or 50 mg to 100 mg of each tissue; if possible, always include chorionic villi.

Transport Container

In the absence of Integrated Genetics tube, use any sterile container with tissue culture medium, Hank’s Balanced Salt Solution or Earls and add antibiotics: Penicillin/Streptomycin (100 IU/mL/100 mg/mL) or Gentamycin (50 mg/mL).
If the Integrated Genetics media has expired, please ship the specimen in the expired media, as it is preferable to any other types of tissue culture media.

Transport Temperature

Ambient

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)

Tissue placed in formalin is not acceptable.

Methodology
Banding-GTG banding, other banding methods as necessary
Computer imaging and computer-assisted karyotyping
Culture-Suspension culture with phytohemagglutinin (PHA) as mitogen

Reference Range

An interpretive report will be provided.
