Preferred Specimen
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

Arterial
Container/Tube: Preheparinized blood gas syringe
Specimen Volume: 3 mL of whole blood
Collection Instructions: Avoid exposure of specimen to atmosphere.

Capillary
Container/Tube: Preheparinized capillary blood gas tube
Specimen Volume: Full tube of blood
Collection Instructions: Avoid exposure of specimen to atmosphere.

Cord Blood Specimen obtained by nursing personnel.

Note: Label specimen appropriately arterial or venous cord blood.
