Unspun specimens must arrive at the Lab within 30 minutes at Room Temp for correct processing.
Off campus sites must send Platelet Poor frozen plasma to Cox South Laboratory.

Collection Instructions: Blood to anticoagulant ratio is critical.
Note: 1. Results may be affected by hematocrit >55%.

 




Minimum Volume
2 ml plasma


Instructions
Centrifuge light blue-top tube 15 minutes at approximately 1500 g within 60 mins of collection.  Use a plastic pipette, remove plasma, taking care to avoid the WBC/platelet buffy layer and place into a plastic vial.  Centrifuge a second time and transfer platelet-poor plasma into a new plastic vial.  Freeze immediately and ship on dry ice.

Frozen: 14 days.
Unspun specimen must arrive within 30 minutes of draw or send platelet poor frozen plasma.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Grossly hemolyzed, clotted blood, or an insufficient specimen is not acceptable.

40-150% activity compared to normal plasma pool


Clinical Significance
Useful for evaluating and monitoring hemophilia A and von Willebrand disease.
