2. Do not uncap tube once specimen is drawn.

Reference Range
Normal blood alcohol is 0.00%.
Serum or plasma specimens may be approximately 15% higher than whole blood.
The lowest measurable level is 0.010%.
 


Clinical Significance
Useful for quantitation of alcohol level for medical purposes, diagnosing alcohol intoxication, and determining appropriate therapy. It is also used as a screen for alcoholism and to monitor ethanol treatment for methanol intoxication .
