Instructions
Place specimen on wet ice immediately after drawing and keep refrigerated until centrifugation. Use refrigerated centrifuge.
Venipuncture should occur prior to sulfasalazine administration due to the potential for falsely elevated results.

Clinical Significance
Ammonia is an end product of metabolism found in small amounts in the blood. Elevated levels are found in patients with impaired liver function.
