Preferred Specimen


Platelet Antibody Screen/Crossmatch Testing
Container/Tube: Yellow-top (ACD) tube
Specimen Volume: 3 full tubes of whole blood



 Plateletpheresis Testing
No specimen is required if patient’s blood type is already on file in CoxHealth Laboratories’ Blood Bank.



Note: A patient Blood Bank identification bracelet is required.

Monday through Friday


Reference Range
Crossmatch not performed if platelet antibody screen is negative


Clinical Significance
Platelets are given to those patients with low platelet counts or nonfunctioning platelets to help in the clotting process.
