Clinical Significance
Clopidogrel (Plavix) is widely used in the treatment of stroke, acute coronary syndrome, and other conditions characterized by a high risk of ischemic events. The most important enzyme involved in the activation of this pro-drug is CYP2C19. This test is a genetic test to determine which alleles a patient is carrying for the CYP2C19 enzyme. This information can then be interpreted to determine whether Clopidogrel would be an effective treatment, or if alternative therapies should be considered.

Interpretation of alleles and how this relates to a patient's ability to metabolize the drug will be included in an interpretive comment for the order.
