Methodology
Selective culture on Regan-Lowe media for Bordetella pertussis and Bordetella parapertussis and PCR for Bordetella pertussis.
Reference Range
Negative. Critical Value: Positive Bordetella smear or culture.
Clinical Significance
Bordetella pertussis is the cause of whooping cough that may occur in unimmunized individuals.
