Clinical Significance
Secreted into circulation in response to the TSH. Elevated T4 levels are seen in hyperthyroidism and acute thyroiditis. Low levels of T4 are seen in hypothyroidism, myxedema, cretinism, chronic thyroiditis and sub-acute thyroiditis.
