D-Dimer Quantitative
Test CodeDDDVT
Preferred Specimen
Plasma, Full Tube Draw
Instructions
This assay is considered a screening test for Deep Vein Thrombosis/Pulmonary Embolism (DVT/PE), with a decision cutoff value of 0.50 mg/L FEU (FEU: Fibrinogen Equivalent Units).
Transport Container
Light Blue top
Transport Temperature
Non-aliquoted plasma samples stable for 4 hours room temp., aliquoted plasma samples stable for 24 hrs refrigerated.
Reference Range
A result of less than 0.50 mg/L FEU is associated with a
high negative predictive value for DVT/PE in the outpatient population. Normal Range: < 0.50 mg/L FEU Critical Value: >0.50 mg/L FEU

Clinical Significance
Quantitation of D-Dimer assesses fibrinolytic activation and intravascular thrombosis. It is of particular value in excluding the diagnosis of venous thromboembolism among patients at high risk.
