Preferred Specimen
3.0 mL Plasma, Minimum 0.4 mL Instructions: Patient should refrain from taking medications, preferably 3 weeks before draw. Patient should be ambulatory for 30 minutes before draw. Patient should be on a moderate sodium diet during collection.  Specimen Stability  Room Temperature: 24 hours,  Refrigerated: Unacceptable, Frozen: 6 months


Instructions
Instruction: Collect plasma from (L, lavender-top tube,EDTA). Centrifuge and separate blood at room temperature. Avoid refrigeration to eliminate cryoactivation of prorenin to renin. Freeze and ship frozen. When submitting catheterization studies, it is recommended that the referring laboratory retain a portion of each sample.

Grossly hemolyzed samples are unacceptable and will be cancelled.
