Clinical Significance
The detection of volatile organic solvents (volatiles) in biological fluids (blood and urine) may be useful in the determination of treatment scenarios for patients affected by such substances through environmental/industrial exposure. Additionally, the quantitation of ethyl alcohol (ethanol) in blood is useful in determining an individual's intoxication level, and thus his/her ability to perform safely in certain circumstances (i.e., operate a motor vehicle).
