Blood Cultures are not to be drawn from Central Venous Access Device unless the ordering provider is ruling out a specific line infection or under very rare circumstances when specimen cannot be obtained by venipuncture

Clinical Significance
Blood cultures are collected whenever clinically significant bacteremia is suspected. It is important to use the strict aseptic technique and supplies as outlined below when collecting the blood culture to prevent skin microorganisms from contaminating the culture.
