CDPCR POSITIVE-CDFAB NEGATIVE:
Negative for A and B Reference Range: Negative
Positivity for C. difficile toxin gene PCR but negativity for toxin EIA indicates gut colonization by C. difficile. Colonization without toxin production, even in the presence of diarrhea, is unlikely to require treatment directed at C. difficile infection.

++ POSITIVE ++ Reference Range: Negative
Positivity for both C. difficile toxin gene PCR and toxin EIA assay is correlated with symptomatic C. difficile infection.
