Use only for patients with documented refractile platelet responses and discussion with Blood Bank.
 


Preferred Specimen
Two (2) 10 ml ACD (Yellow) and One Serum (RED) 7 ml
  • Note:  Patient WBC must be > 1.0 x 103


Instructions
HLA Matched Platelets.
  • The first order for HLA Matched platelets must have pathologist approval.
  • The HLA type of all patients who will receive long-term platelet support should be performed before they are rendered pancytopenic by therapy.
    • WBC Count must be >1.0x103 for typing.
  • HLA matched platelets may be required for patient that are highly alloimmunized.
  • HLA matched platelets are used when Crossmatched platelets are not effective.

Clinical Significance
Performed at Blood Source in Sacramento CA

Provide estimate of platelet usage for next 5 days.
Depending on results, Platelets will be available with 1-2 days.
