- Specimen can be epithelial scrapings from skin lesions, oral lesions, or conjunctival lesions
Instructions
Collection Procedure:
All supplies are available in the Microbiology department of the Clinical Laboratory at CRMC.
Tongue depressor- Glass slides- Slide holder/large tube
All supplies are available in the Microbiology department of the Clinical Laboratory at CRMC.
Tongue depressor- Glass slides- Slide holder/large tube
- Scrape lesion firmly with a wooden tongue depressor.
- Place scraping on clean glass slide (obtain slides from the Microbiology lab)
- Or - Touch slide to lesion or roll swab on slide.
- Label slide with pencil.
- Air dry the slide.Place slide(s) into a cardboard slide holder or a large conical tube large enough to hold the slide.
- Place into a lab specimen Biohazard bag.
- Order as Pathology/Cytology test.
- Send to laboratory ASAP.
