Crystal Violet Stain

Reference Range
Quantitation of WBCs and Epithelial cells using low-power
  Rare   less than 1-2 per LPF
  Few   1-10 per LPF
 Moderate   11-25 per LPF
  Many   >25 per LPF
Quantitation of bacteria and yeasts using oil immersion (100x/HPF):
 Rare   less than 1 per HPF
  Few   1-5 per HPF
 Moderate   6-30 per HPF
 Many   >30 per HPF


Clinical Significance

To detect the presence and identify the general type of bacteria or fungi (microbes) in a sample taken from the site of a suspected infection; to generally classify bacteria grown in culture so that further identification tests can be performed and appropriate treatment given.
