Specimen Stability
Urine:  To prevent urate precipitation in urine specimens, after specimen collection, add a sufficient volume of sodium hydroxide solution to bring the pH between 8 and 9. Uric acid in urine is usually stable for approximately 3 days when stored at 15-25°C, provided that there is no bacterial growth to destroy it.
