Clinical Significance
"The Cortrosyn Stimulation Test is intended for use in the screening of patients for primary or secondary adrenocortical insufficiency. The administration of Cortrosyn in a normal individual will cause a rise in the plasma cortisol level. If the patient does not show a rise from the baseline cortisol, further studies may be necessary.
There are two test options: (1) Regular Dose of 250 mcg (0.25mg) and (2) Low Dose of 1 mcg. It is important the requisition from the physician specify the dosing when placing the order. "
