Clinical Significance
Rho(D) Immune Globulin is a highly concentrated solution of lgG Anti-Rho(D) antibody.
A full dose (300 ug or 1500 IU) is sufficient to protect against 15 mL of D positive red cells or 30 mL of whole blood.
This product is most commonly used in the prevention of Rho(D) sensitization of the Rho(D) negative woman as a result of pregnancy. Common indications for Rh immunoglobulin associated with pregnancy in the Rho(D) negative patient include:

- Routinely, early in the third trimester and after delivery.
- After a variety of prenatal diagnostic procedures, including amniocenteses, chorionic villus sampling, and vigorous external version attempts.
- After abortion or ectopic pregnancy, at any gestational age.
- Threatened abortion with bleeding (it is controversial as to whether such an event in the first trimester is reason for prophylaxis, but it is commonly administered).
- Significant blunt abdominal trauma.
- Hydatidiform molar pregnancy.
