Preferred Specimen
Dry stone(s) collected in a plastic sterile screw-cap container

Other Acceptable Specimens
Filtered material, dry stone (gall bladder, urinary bladder, salivary, prostate), submitted in a sterile plastic leak-proof screw-cap container

Instructions
1. Clean any blood or foreign material from the stone with water.
2. Stone should be air dried thoroughly at room temperature for approximately 24 hours. A dry stone should not stick to the walls of the walls of the plastic container.
3. Important: Do not tape specimen; Do not send stone in formalin, surgical gel, or any transport media; Avoid sending filters and cotton swabs (Q-tips)
4. Additional processing is required for stones received with residual liquid or dampness, potentially causing delays in testing.
5. In cases for multiple stones that require individual analysis, testing must be ordered for each stone and will be charged separately. Each stone should be placed in its own plastic container.
6. Indicate source of specimen on outside of container (e.g., left kidney, bladder, right ureter).

Transport Temperature
Room temperature

Specimen Stability
