PT is used to monitor oral anticoagulation therapy of Coumadin and Warfarin, which depresses the liver's production of factors II, VII, IX, and X by a process of copetitive inhibition with Vitamin K.  Since PT measures Factors II, VII, and X, it can be used to monitor the drugs effect.
