Gross hemolysis, short draw tubes, clotted specimens.  Ultracentrifuge grossly lipemic specimens.


Clinical Significance
Protime measures the functional activity of the extrinsic and common coagulation pathways and the generation of thrombin and conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin of the clotting mechanism.  PT also measures deficiencies of Factors I (fibrinogen), Factor V, Protein C, and Protein S.
