Clinical Significance
In vitro diagnostic test for the qunatitative measurement of total prostate specific antigen in human plasma used as an aid in the detection of prostate cancer when used in conjunction with digital rectal exam in men 50 and older, and as an aid in the management of prostate cancer patients.  Prostate biopsy is required for diagnosis of prostate cancer.  This assay measures both the free and the ACT bound components of serum PSA equally, a property known as equimolarity.
