PHOSPHORUS
Test CodePHOS
Preferred Specimen
LIGHT GREEN (LITHIUM) GEL OR GOLD TOP TUBE Tube
Clinical Significance
In vitro diagnostic test for the quantitative determination of phosphorus in human plasma. Elevated phosphorus levels are seen in ketoacidosis, hypoparathyroidism, kidney failure, liver disease, and excess of vitamin D or phosohate in the diet. Lower levels may be due to alcoholism, hypercalcemia, hyperparathyroidism, poor nutrition or too little intake of phosphate and vitamin D.
