Clinical Significance
In vitro diagnostic test for the quantitative determination of phenobarbital in human plasma used in monitoring phenobarbital to ensure appropriate therapy and in the diagnosis and treatment of phenobarbital overdose.  Phenobarbital is an anti-epileptic and sedative-hypnotic drug useful in treatment of grand mal seizures and in seizures due to alcohol or bariburate withdrawal.
