Clinical Significance
In vitro diagnostic test for the quantitative determination of prealbumin (transthyretin) in human plasma used in the monitoring of nutritional status and/or nutritional support.  Prealbumin is synthesized in the liver and the serum concentration reflects the synthesis capacity and is diminished in maltrutrition and other conditions.
