Test CodeMYGBP
Preferred Specimen
LIGHT GREEN (LITHIUM) GEL OR GOLD TOP TUBE Tube
Specimen Stability
3 days
Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Hemolysis
Clinical Significance
In vitro diagnostic test for the quantitative measurement of myoglobin in human plasma. Myoblobin is a heme protein found in both cardiac and skeletal muscle cells, elevation in plasma occurs following damage or trauma to these cells. Myoglobin has been used as an early, non-specific marker for detection of MI, as levels rise measurably above baseline 1 - 3 hours post MI.
