Clinical Significance
Test measuring the amount of hemoglobin in whole blood, which is the oxygen carrying protein in red blood cells.  Low levels may be due to various anemias, iron deficiency, acute or chronic blood loss, liver disease, cancers, thalassemia, overhydration.  High levels my be due to lung or heart disease, polycythemia vera, dehydration.
