Clinical Significance
Test measuring the percent volume of red blood cells in whole blood, usually used with hemoglobin as part of a CBC to check for anemia. Low levels may be due to various anemias, iron deficiency, acute or chronic blood loss, liver disease, cancers, thalassemia, overhydration. High levels my be due to lung or heart disease, polycythemia vera, dehydration.
