Not routinely recommended for assessing prophylactic therapy.  Clinicians should check with pharmacy for therapeutic range if using this assay to assess Dalteparin (Fragmin) level. This assay cannot be used for monitoring Arixtra (Fondaparinux), Danaparoid, or direct thrombin inhibitors (Dabigatran, Rivaroxaban, or Argatroban).

Clinical Significance
Automated chromogenic assay for the quantitative determination of unfractionated heparin and low molecular weight heparin in human citrated plasma.  Heparin is the most frequently used antithrombotic drug.  The biological activity of the sulphated glycosaminoglycan resides in its ability to accelerate the inhibitory effect of antithrombin on coagulation proteases.
