Clinical Significance
The direct coombs is used to detect antibodies and/or complement bound to red cells in vivo and is useful in investigating autoimmune hemolytic anemia, dru-induced hemolysis, hemolytic disease of the newborn, and allo-immune reactions to recently transfused red cells.
