Preferred Specimen
2 containers:
- 1 Gold tube (gel separator) AND
- 24 Hour Urine Container without preservative (aliquot or transfer urine into a transfer tube and note the total volume)
Minimum Volume
- 10 mL urine aliquot and
- 0.5 mL serum
Other Acceptable Specimens
or 2 containers:
- 1 Green tube (Lithium Heparin) and
- 24 Hour Urine Container without preservative (aliquot or transferurine into a transfer tube and note the total volume)
Instructions
- Mix the specimen well and measure the 24-Hour volume
- Note the total volume in mLs.
- Pour off 20 mL of urine into a separate plastic screw-cap container.
- Note the patient height in inches.
- Note the patient weight as a whole number.
- Centrifuge blood tube(s) for complete separation of plasma/serum and red cells.
- If whole blood was collected, aliquot plasma.
- Refrigerate both urine and serum/plasma specimens until tested.
