Please note:  many lubricants interfere with the ThinPrep® pap test.  Please see the list of approved lubricants to avoid a rejection.

Specimen Stability
Thin Prep samples are stable 6 weeks at Room Temperature or Refrigerated; Digene Cervical Brush samples are stable 3 weeks Refrigerated


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
The following will result in a specimen rejection:
  • Samples submitted in the wrong collection container
  • Specimen not labeled with TWO patient identifiers
  • Specimen submitted with a lubricant containing carbomers
