Centrifuge for complete separation of serum and red cells.  If Red top is used, aliquot (transfer) serum into a transfer tube and refrigerate.

Reference Range

Male:

  • <40 years = <1.4 ng/mL
  • <50 years = <2.0 ng/mL
  • <60 years = <3.1 ng/mL
  • <70 years = <4.1 ng/mL
  • >70 years = <4.4 ng/mL


Clinical Significance

As an aid in the detection of prostate cancer in men aged 50 years or older and serial measurements are used to aid in the management of cancer patients.
