Clinical Significance
 Lyme disease is caused by Borrelia burgdorferei, and is transmitted by ticks. Western blot testing qualitatively examines, with high specificity, antibodies in a patient's specimen. Western blot testing is appropriate for confirming a detected EIA or IFA test result.
