Instructions

Special Instruction for Intraoperative PTH testing:  Notify the laboratory, preferably 24 hours, in advance of the procedure.  Please include the date & time of the procedure in the notification.  This notification will ensure the instrument is calibrated and in control to ensure timely results during the procedure.  (Failure to notify the laboratory in advance may delay patient testing). 



Intraoperative samples are collected by the OR staff then immediately transported to the lab for testing. The OR staff hands-off the sample to the Lab staff communicating the urgent need for results. Lab Staff will process and run the sample immediately.  The lab tech will call the results back to the OR immediately on completion.

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Grossly hemolyzed specimens are unacceptable.

Clinical Significance


 This assay is intended to be used to aid in the differential diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism, hypoparathyroidism, or hypercalcemia of malignancy.
