1.0 mL whole blood (100 uL minimum)


Instructions
Collection tube must be filled properly and mixed thoroughly. Deliver to laboratory promptly.

EDTA (lavender/purple top)


Specimen Stability
Room temperature: 6 hours, Refrigerated: 12 hours, Frozen: unacceptable


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Clotted specimens are unacceptable.


Reference Range
Female: 0-30 mm/hr

Male: 0-10 mm/hr


Clinical Significance
ESR is a widely used, non-specific screening test. It is indicative of the presence of infectious, inflammatory, degenrative or neoplastic conditions. The increased rate of red cell determination is mainly associated with qualitative and quantitative changes in the plasma proteins.
