Preferred Specimen
2.0 mL CSF (0.5 mL minimum)
Instructions
Deliver immediately to the laboratory.
Transport Container
Sterile tubes from lumbar puncture tray. If tubes are not pre-numbered, manually number to indicate the order of collection.
Specimen Stability
Room temperature: 24 hours, Refrigerated: not recommended, Frozen: Unacceptable
Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Clotted and/or specimens received after 24 hrs will be tested; a qualifying comment is appended to the results.
Frozen samples will be rejected.
