Instructions
Refrigerate during collection. Record duration of collection on requisition and container.
- Obtain a large specimen container from the laboratory.
- Inform the laboratory of the test being done so that the proper preservative, if any, can be added to the container.
- Label container with patient’s name (last & first), medical record number, date and time collection was begun.
- Place the properly labeled container in the specimen refrigerator.
- Have the patient void at 0600 and discard.
- Save all urine for the next 24 hours.
- Have the patient void at the end of the time period (0600 the next day for 24 hour specimens). Include this specimen with all others and send to the laboratory.
