Clinical Significance
Total serum cholesterol analysis has proven useful in the diagnosis of hyperliproteinemia, atherosclerosis, hepatic and thyroid diseases. A diet, which is high in saturated fat, elevates the level of cholesterol whereas a diet low in saturated fat lowers the blood cholesterol level.
