TEG 6s Global w/ Lysis (K, RT, FF)
MessagePerformed in Coag
Test Code
TEG6sLysis
Preferred Specimen
Whole blood collected in 3.2% Sodium Citrate tube, blue-top tube (FULL TUBE required).
Samples may be arterial or venous.
Samples may be arterial or venous.
Instructions
For samples drawn by venipuncture:
Use a 21-gauge needle. The first 3 mL of blood should not be used for TEG® testing due to possible tissue contaminants in the sample during normal phlebotomy. Draw a discard tube if the only sample being drawn will be for TEG testing.
For line draws:
The first 7mL of blood should be discarded.
Sample Transport:
Samples should be hand delivered to the laboratory. Samples may be sent via the pneumatic tube system if an approved validation has been performed.

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
• Whole blood sample collected in wrong tube.
• Platelet Mapping: Whole blood sample collected in a heparin gel tube
• Underfilled or overfilled tubes
• Clotted Specimens
• Samples contaminated with tissue contaminants (no discard tube drawn)
• Hemolyzed
• Hemodiluted
• Refrigerated, chilled on ice, or frozen
• Centrifuged specimens
• An appropriate blood sample not allowed to equilibrate from time of draw (10 minutes for citrated tubes and 30 minutes for heparin tubes) or is too old and past stability time frame for test ordered.
• Samples sent via the tube system unless approved by the Pathologist or a validation has been performed

Clinical Significance
The TEG 6s instrument analyzes the functional coagulation state of a blood sample in order to assist in the assessment of a patient’s
clinical hemostasis condition.
clinical hemostasis condition.
