Instructions
Describe the ACTUAL TYPE AND LOCATION of the catheter tip, such as:

Transport Temperature
Refrigerated 2-8 °C
Specimen Stability

Refrigerate specimens up to 24 hrs

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Unacceptable specimens:
Specimen submitted in saline
Foley Catheter Tips
NOTE: Culture of foley cath tips should not be performed, as they pick up contamination during removal. If infection is suspected, urine should be submitted for culture.

Methodology
Quantitative culture using Maki method
Clinical Significance
For the purpose of diagnosing catheter-related blood stream infection (CRBSI), a peripheral blood culture must be collected at the same time the catheter is to be submitted for culture. Results from the catheter tip culture without a paired blood culture is uninterpretable.
